Field recordist Michael Raphael’s Rabbit Ears Audio Web shop has just released a new sound effects collection: Steam Whistles (524 sounds, 8 gigabytes, $115.00).
The high-resolution, 192 kHz sound library gathers steam toots, blasts, and whistles with beautiful, clean tails. The tracks are recorded with a variety of microphones (Schoeps MK4 & MK8, Sennheiser MKH40, MKH40, MD423, MKH60, Sanken CUB–01, and DPA 4060s) at varying perspectives.

Raphael’s sound fx libraries were some of the first collections released by an independent field recordist. Previously, he has recorded collections as diverse as a Hind Helicopter, Jet Turbines, and Rockets. He has also collaborated with other field recordists to release packages such as LA Underground with Charles Maynes, and Bridgett Tones with Rob Bridgett.
