Web shop Undertone Sound Library continues with their prolific schedule of releases by announcing Young Forest in Spring (14 sounds, 4.27 gigabytes, $25).
The result of a journey into a forest reserve in the middle of spring, the 96 kHz/24-bit, metadata-embedded sound library features fresh-sounding wind, spring peepers, stark crows cawing, trees creaking, and other evocative field recordings.
Undertone describes their aim recording the library:
[We] wanted a sparse backdrop for laying other “life” against. One Sunday we trekked out on a cool sunny day that had it occasional gusts and breezes. We found the area of the forest reserve where the trees were young and just beginning to bud. There is some branch movement, but very little to no leaf sound and sparse bird life. This library has provided a good basic canvas for outdoor scenes when we just need “air”.
The collection was captured using four Schoeps CMC6/MK4 microphones in quad ORTF, tracked to a Sound Devices 744T recorder. Listen to a sample of the recordings:
