Today we’re featuring a collection from Hidden Sound – their offering, the “Dissonant Langspil” – sound library was crafted to be a unique and experimental sound library.
The Dissonant Langspil collection showcases the Icelandic Langspil—a traditional stringed instrument played by Chris Foster to provide a series of dissonant, atonal drones, scrapes, scratches, and squeaks. Foster employs bows, bottleneck slides, and fingers to create unusual sounds. The result is a variety of source material for sound designers looking to create or enhance creative textures, morph sounds into something alien or unrecognizable, or add layers to tense and eerie atmospheres in their projects.
With 204 sounds totaling 1.58 GB clocking in at just over 24 minutes, the recordings were captured at sound design-friendly 192 kHz/24-bit with a Sound Devices MixPre 10-II and DPA 4060 microphones.
