Many of you are well aware of Frank Bry’s exceptional recordings over on The Recordist web shop. We just added four new libraries on the shop. Let’s take a look at what’s new.
Thunderstorm 5
The latest in The Recordist’s thunderstorm series, Thunderstorm 5, is a culmination of four years of storm recording, featuring over 85 fresh thunder sounds. This collection offers everything from crackling dry lightning to deep rolling rumbles, recorded in both stereo and quad. Captured in 96k/32-bit float with multiple microphone setups positioned at different angles, the collection showcases a wide and immersive sound field.
RAIN: Roofs and Gutters
RAIN: Roofs and Gutters brings a unique and textured collection of rain sounds recorded over 15 years. This library isn’t just about rain falling; it’s about how it interacts with different surfaces—whether it’s soft drizzles on asphalt shingles, heavy downpours overflowing gutters, or rain splashing onto dirt and concrete. Perfect for sound designers looking to add realism to their environments, these recordings capture the full range of rain’s personality, from peaceful drips to intense storms. Includes a variety in surfaces and intensities.
Prop Planes 3
Prop Planes 3 is the final installment in The Recordist’s propeller plane series. Featuring a diverse collection of single, twin, and turbo-prop aircraft, this library provides an extensive selection of flybys, engine startups, high RPM warm-ups, and taxi maneuvers. Recorded over five years at a local airfield, these sounds were captured with high-end microphones to ensure pristine quality at 24-bit/96kHz resolution. Includes planes ranging from the Cessna 172 to the Grumman G-73 Mallard.
The Fifty
For those looking for powerful firearm sound effects, The Fifty delivers. Featuring recordings of three different .50 caliber anti-material rifles—including the Barrett M82 and M99—this collection provides intense, high-impact gunfire sounds from multiple distances and environments. Recorded across various locations, from open fields to dense mountain forests, these sounds are designed to be easily layered, offering flexibility for different production needs. The library also includes full-auto bursts from the M2HB Browning machine gun and suppressed shots with both supersonic and subsonic ammunition, making it a comprehensive resource for creating realistic gunfire effects.
