Hello all. I’m sharing a quick note today about changes to the website. At the advice of our legal counsel, we’ve recently updated three pages here. We’re required by law to let you know about the changes 30 days before they take effect. So, today’s post is a brief notice about the changes:

  • Terms of Service – what we guarantee to provide, and what you agree to by using the website.
  • Copyright Notice – a statement that everything on the website is owned by Creative Field Recording.
  • Privacy Policy – how we use information on the website and how your info is protected.

In short, the pages clarify things and provide more detail. While the pages add much for text, they are done in the spirit of the previous pages.

If you have any questions about the changes, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to hear from you.

The last article here started a series on sound effects library copyright questions. That post gave an overview of how copyright works with indie sound fx libraries and the pros that use them.

Of course, sound effects can be used in hundreds of ways. Do these rules apply to sounds used in theatre? What about a non-profit project? Every situation is different, and this naturally creates confusion.

I’ve received so many questions about copyright on Airborne Sound that I thought it would be helpful to share questions and answers from people who visit there.

Years ago I wrote a five-article “Sound Effects Copyright Survival Guide” on my other website, Airborne Sound. They have remained the most popular pages on Airborne Sound.

I still receive many questions about sound effects copyright. These days, I write more about Airborne’s sound fx libraries and website changes on that site. However, many of you here at the Sound Effects Search blog are interested in sound libraries, or share them yourself. As both creators and sound pros, knowing how sound clip copyright works is essential to trouble-free projects and operating successful Web shops.

So, today I’ll begin a short series about sound FX copyright. This first article will be a round up of sound library copyright articles I’ve written elsewhere. Next week will feature copyright questions I’ve received from readers.

I’ll return to writing about indie sound fx bundles in the future.
